Building a Fashion Empire

GRTCTRL is an independent fashion brand where I serve as Creative Director, overseeing all visual identity, brand strategy, and creative output from initial concept through production and distribution.

The Challenge

Build a complete fashion brand from the ground up with limited resources while maintaining professional quality across all touchpoints. Create a distinctive visual identity that stands out in a saturated market and resonates with the target audience.

02 — Brand Identity

The Crest

The GRTCTRL visual identity draws from baroque and rococo aesthetics, creating a luxury fashion brand rooted in ornate classical imagery. The evolution from the original Horizon wordmark to the final crest logo marked a strategic shift toward heritage luxury positioning.

The crest features intricate scrollwork, angelic figures, and royal crown motifs—establishing a visual language that communicates craftsmanship, exclusivity, and timeless elegance. The ornate detailing translates across applications from embroidered apparel to large-scale marketing, maintaining recognizability at any scale.

The brand identity began with a clean Horizon-font wordmark before evolving into the ornate crest system. This transition elevated the brand's market positioning, creating immediate visual impact that differentiates GRTCTRL in the independent fashion space.

03 — Design System

Visual Foundation

Color Palette

Monochromatic foundation in black, white, and grey creates versatile application across materials. The high-contrast palette works for screen printing, embroidery, digital platforms, and packaging. Silver and metallic accents enhance the luxury positioning when appropriate for premium product lines.

Typography

Originally built on Horizon font for the wordmark before transitioning to the crest-based system. The ornamental logo serves as the primary brand mark, with supporting typography kept clean and minimal to balance the elaborate central motif.

Applications

The identity system scales seamlessly across all brand touchpoints: woven labels and swing tags, apparel prints and embroidery, packaging and mailers, website and social media, marketing materials and event installations. Every application maintains consistent brand recognition.
